Hey everybody!!!!!

After a very brief hiatus, SIDNEY'S BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Be excited.

I don't know if I still have my quality blogger skills, but I'm sure I do.

First of all, I want to say that I will not be talking about any Maverick born after the year 1990... I am before their time and it's inappropriate. If I do mention them, it will be in a nurturing (motherly) way. [Don't read into that the wrong way...]

*ahem* Anyway, I have some good ideas and I am excited for my future. (I've been working on my personal statement lately and it's just sinking in...)

I've decided I am going to uncensor myself--in other words, I'm goin' all out, folks.

Check back regularly, because I hope to be posting regularly, but I might not, but right now I'm going to say that I am, and hopefully you'll get a kick out of it.

Just a little on Trevor Bruess

The Capitals' Development Camp is going on this week and Trevor Bruess is one of the guys at the camp. So far, Trevor's been showing up a lot in the videos and events from the camp. He's doing "tweets" for the CAPITALS' TWITTER and he's featured in a few videos. Joe Finley gave a SCOUTING REPORT ON TREVOR and there is a CUTE INTERVIEW OF TREVOR UP. I recommend checking it all out, especially the little interview with him. :) And of course, I'd like to wish Trevor Bruess good look at camp! :)

More Mavs Away at Camp

So I thought that maybe since Channing got invited to the Flyers Prospect Camp (which by the day, kind of sort of officially started today--I think yesterday they did something, but the main thing started today) that maybe other Mavericks are also/did also/whatever attend a team's prospect camp.

I looked at the St. Louis Blues' camp and discovered that Andy Sackrison is (of course) attending, along with Rylan Galiardi! (link HERE) that's pretty exciting for Galiardi! (And Sackrison too, of course~) Good luck guys!

I also checked the Buffalo Sabre's site and Justin Jokinen is in attendance there. He's the only Mav there, though. So good luck to him too. :)

And who knows, I probably could have missed other Mavs at prospect camps! I tried to check around some of my other favorite teams (and a few of my not-so favorite teams...) to see if they have rosters up, but some sites were hard to navigate (I had to go through Buffalo's Twitter to find the link to their roster! The Blues had a nice printable roster though, so I give that a thumbs up!) so it was hard to tell. I don't think anybody was going to be at the Wild's camp, and the Washington Capital's roster hasn't been put up yet. But anyway, I apologize if I missed anybody! I'll keep my eyes open for others.

In the meantime, good luck to everybody currently or futurely (apparently that's not a word...) involved in a prospect camp! :)

Channing as a Flyer? :D

So I was checking out information on the Flyers prospect camp this week (duh, what else would I be doing?) when I stumbled upon a very well-kept secret that the Mavericks' very own Channing Christopher Boe will be attending the camp, along with everybody's favorite ex-Maverick, now-Flyer, Jon Kalinski! ♥ ♥ ♥ (link HERE!)

This news pretty much made my day (and I'm assuming it made all of your days too?) because, hello, two great players who are/were affiliated with the Mavs in the great city of Philadelphia! (Well, I think technically they're going to be in New Jersey, but whatever)

I can't wait to creep around and find pictures of Channing with the Flying P logo on his jersey! (...and I mean that in a non-creepy kind of way, fyi)

Oh, and in case you didn't go to the link, Channing is listed as being #64 (opposite of Jon's #46, right?) and Jon is listed as being #37. (and in case anyone cares, Nodl is #15, not #14... but who would care. I mean, it's not like he played for the great mighty Mavericks... just saying...)

Well, that news was the highlight of my summer so far, and I hope Channing does super, super, super well because nothing would make me happier than if he signed with the Flyers someday. (and don't worry, Channing, you can leave before you graduate, because you don't have to be a college grad to become president! :D) So good luck Channing. And good luck Jon, too. :D

I'm sure everybody read today's Free Press article about poor Channing and his injuries. Well, I found this video taken yesterday, I believe, and it just adds to that article... it's good to see the Mavs are doing what they can to help poor little Channing out.

Cookies for Channing

Everybody's dear friend LGM has been on me all week to make a Channing post, and I told her that I was too crushed over what happened to Channing to even think clearly.

I could go into the politics of what happened (and have been all week to anybody who comments on the weekend's series) but just know that I saw what I call the attack on Channing with my very own two eyes and sat horror-struck for what seemed like hours as that Minnesota dude (read: GOON) beat up poor little defenseless Channing. And then I finally came to my senses and stood up and yelled at the refs to get that guy off of Channing, which they must have heard me, because they FINALLY dragged him off. And in conclusion, while I am psyched that the Mavs swept the gophers (I refuse to capitalize the word 'gopher'), a part of me felt like we lost... because we lost who is perhaps (and most likely) the most precious Maverick on the team.

And so, last night, I decided to make cookies in recognition of the one of the greatest assets to college hockey as a whole, Channing Christopher Boe. Which means, I spelled out Channing's name in cookie dough!:

Speaking of Kael Mouillierat, look at the number on the book I'm reading! This isn't coincidence though... I planned it out so that all of my books are number 37 or number 28. If they didn't have a 37 or 28, I got a number 9, 46, or 23. I also think I have a number 19. :)

Bad News

Well, things were going pretty good for a while... Jon got his first NHL goal, Channing got his first Maverick goal, and the Mavs finally got a win... and now THIS happens.

Here, I'll quote:

"Jon [Kalinski] is actually in the hospital. He had to have surgery on his thigh yesterday because of a contusion on his thigh that we couldn't get the swelling down. They had to go in and get the blood out of there. So, he's lying in a hospital with an open wound, letting it drain. We just have to see how it goes, but it's going to be significant time. Probably a couple weeks."

SAD. Poor Jon! I wish they'd give out an address to send a get well card to. :(

Sadly, the Flyers lost in a shoot-out though. Oh well!

Also, I wanted to point out how cool I think it is that he has orange tape on the handle of his stick. I noticed that trend was going around in the NHL, and think it's pretty cool. I'm glad Jon's trendy enough to have picked up on it! Now the Mavs need to bring it to the WCHA and start putting purple tape on their sticks or something... now that would be cool!

Where is Kalinski?

I just wanted to congratulate Jon Kalinski on his goal, assist, and getting the number 1 star of the Phantoms game yesterday.

But now if Jon Kalinski could just e-mail me (sidney.sherlock@gmail.com) with the reason behind his not playing tonight, that would be greatly appreciated. I would sleep so much better if I just knew the reason. Thank you.

I hope all the Mavs are enjoying their time off and have a wonderful Christmas!

So the other day, I was adding freckles all over Sidney Crosby's body, and then I was like, "You know what would be more fun? To put freckles on Dan Tormey's face!"

And so I did. And you know what? It was fun. And you know what else? I got a little carried away and was originally going to do the whole team. But then I got bored and ended up only doing Dan Tormey and Trevor Bruess, two of my faves.

And let me tell you, they are CUTE. I mean, they're originally cute, but with freckles they are even CUTER! I know it's hard to believe, so I'll show you!

Q & A with LGM!

Yes, you did read the Title of this post correctly! LGM and I were both able to take some time out of our busy schedules and answer some of each other's questions, and here are her answers to my questions, with my comments in parentheses and italics. :)

Do you think Dan Tormey is amazingly good looking?

Yes, Dan Tormey is pretty good looking. He has amazing skin…women would kill for that skin tone. He has a beautiful smile and nice hair too. Overall just a good looking kid, super nice too! (You nailed that one right on the head LGM!)

Do you really talk with the guys just to "talk hockey"?

Yes, I really just talk hockey (or college life I guess) with them. They are much younger than me so there’s no way in hell I would flirt with any of them. LGM is not a cougar!! Most of them are super nice and funny too, so they’re a fun group to talk to. However, talking to them has their downfalls, as some can be jerks and also it’s harder when you “know” them. You tend to take the dirty hits on them more personal and start yelling things at games like “GET OFF MICK BERGE!!” or “QUIT HUMPING TREVOR BRUESS!” My friends think it’s funny though.

The other down side of it is then you get sad when they leave. I was super sad when Kalinski left and the thought of this year’s Senior Class leaving makes me very sad. I “heart” each and every Senior player. I’m really going to miss them! (Are you sure it’s not more like you “talk hockey” just like I watch Phantoms games to “analyze the game”? Haha, just kidding, I really do just analyze the game. I do not watch those games just to watch one person.)

Please explain in exquisite detail why you weren't a fan of Kurtis Kisio.

For the four years I watched him play I felt that he never played up to his potential and he was always making stupid mistakes. Each year you have to have “the player to hate” and I guess he was one of mine. I’ve had many players plead to me that I have to like him because he’s a good guy but I just can’t. I’ve never met him though, and I’m sure he’s a good guy. The one thing I did like about him was his firey personality. I LOVED when he went and charged Kellan Briggs after the Gophers cut Tormey’s hand. Gotta love that. It’s the Canadian in him. Canadian players always seem a little more spirited and willing to sacrifice their body for the game. It’s like “Hey man, I maybe just lost my arm back there but did you see me continue to crash the net and score a goal. Eh? Hell yeah! Give me a bandaid and I’m back in!!” (So what exactly didn’t you like? Are you sure you’re not just anti-short players? Or better yet, anti-Kurt-named players?)

Who's your favourite NHL team?

I really am not that big of a fan of NHL hockey. It’s too boring for me. I like the speed and grit of college hockey (which sadly is going away with the stupid new penalty rules!!). If I had to choose a favorite I would go with a team that a Mav plays for…so the Blues or the Ducks…and of course the Flyers once my boy Kalinski is playing. (Weak LGM. You know you like the Panthers.)

Who's your all-time all-time all-time favourite Maverick of all-time?

Jon Kalinski. DUH! Love, love, love that kid. He’s super quirky (which is my favorite thing about any player), fast, gritty, and just a little trouble maker. He is beyond awesome. A very close second is Chris Clarky though. Love that kid too. (Those are two of my top players too! You forgot some of Jon Kalinski’s most important traits though! Good thing I covered them in my interview.)

Are you an introvert or an extrovert?

100% extrovert. I get all of my energy from being around other people and if I’m alone too long I get sad. (One of the many reasons I admire LGM!)

If you were a Mav, what position would you play and which line would you be out with?

Ooh, hard question. I would be a defenseman so I could go around and hit people. I would probably play a style like Kilburg where I would go and hammer on a guy and skate away laughing. That would be awesome.

As for my line, I would choose my D partner to be Channing Boe (of course!) and my forwards would be Berge, Mouillierat, and Bruess. (I could see that.)

If you could would you quit your job and become a professional blogger?

I don’t think I would want to be a professional blogger. I would run out of ambition for it and funny/interesting materials. Plus, I like to work with people so being a blogger would be boring. (People Shmeople.)

Who do you think is the smartest Mav?

Dan Tormey. I think he’s made the All Academic WCHA team and just seems like a smart kid. I also think that coming in right behind him is Jason Wiley and I’ve heard that Trevor Bruess is pretty smart and likes politics. Hmm, who would have thought?!?

Want to know which Mav is the biggest smart ass? Channing Boe. No, maybe not all the time (since he’s just a super nice kid) but he’s the only Mav that’s had the guts to walk up to me and smart off! To top it off, it was when he was a newbie. Last year at Skaters as Waiters my friends were in the bathroom and I was sitting alone and he walked up and said “Oh, sitting with all your friends I see!” and laughed at me. I thought “woah…ballsy new kid! I like you!” (You have actual real, personal reasons for liking Channing Boe? You don’t just like him for his name, his roster pic, and the fact that he’s cute? Interesting…)

Give an example of a time when you were able to successfully communicate with another person even when that individual may not have personally liked you or vice-versa. How did you handle the situation? What obstacles or difficulties did you face? How did you deal with them?

EVERY single day at work I do this. It’s the definition of my job!! On a personal level though? Generally I just use my communication skills from my job and state facts, not feelings, and try to stay calm. Honestly, I’m so used to people disliking me on a professional level and “going off” and being irrational that it doesn’t affect me much. Due to that though, in my personal life I tend to let people get away with a lot and just let it slide off my back. I also am quick to fully analyze a situation and find the deeper meaning to someone’s actions and then am more understanding about what they’re saying.

It’s hard to explain really. You know how when you’re super crabby and are mean to someone for no reason and do it because that person will let you get away with it (most often it’s the person’s mom that gets this behavior..because in the end they know the mom won’t cut them out of their lives or whatever)…well, that’s kinda how I am for a lot of people. Since I deal with conflict and emotional issues on a daily basis I just let it all build up and avoid it in my personal life. I know, bad plan but sometimes you just run out of the energy to deal with people.

Are you sorry you asked? Oh, but I should say that once you’re on my bad side it’s REALLY hard to get off of it. I hold grudges for a long time and can be vengeful. Sad but true. Also, I’m one of those rare people that don’t like people upon meeting them. People have to earn my liking.
Oh, and never physically hit/shove me or you’ll NEVER get off of my bad side. Violence is NEVER the answer…and I mean NEVER. I’m very liberal and don’t believe in it at all….even to the point where I would never ever agree to the death penalty on anyone…not even Osama Bin Laden. (yep, true…and I’m sure I just made a lot of people mad….killing just isn’t right) (No comment for this one! :)

If Channing Boe ran for president, who would be his running-mate?

Andy Sackrison of course!! That would be a power ticket. Two good guys with good values. I would vote for them in a heartbeat! (Agreed. Although I know it would have been Jon Kalinski if he wasn’t Canadian.)

If Channing Boe ran for president, and another Mav ran against him, which Mav would that be?

Kurt Davis because I think deep down Davis is jealous of Channing because everyone loves Channing and he’s a good person…everything that Davis wishes he could be. (Yeah, probably… but what if Davis won?)

Do you talk to yourself when no one else is around?

Yep. Heck, I even talk to myself when others are around!! Mostly though I talk to my puppy Kali. She listens well and never talks back. (Since the name “Kali” is derived from the name “Kalinski” do you pronounce “Kali” with a short a, or Kuh-lee or Kuh-lih (you know, like Kalinski without the –nski)?)

Recommend a book you've read lately.

I just finished reading 19 Minutes by Jodi Picoult. Very very good book. It’s about a school shooting. I’m very intrigued with school shooters so the book was very through provoking. (Interesting. I just finished reading a book called “Hockey Town: Life Before the Pros”. It was pretty good and was thought-provoking also. :)

If you had to rate these mavs on a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being the highest, what would you rate…

…Dan Tormey: I would give him a 4. He’s a nice guy, good looking, and will leave a positive impact on the world.

…Trevor Bruess: Ooh, this is the hardest one for me. Love the way the kid plays but then wasn’t so sure about him on a personal level…but then that kinda changed this summer…but I’m still tossed. I’ll give him a 3 because something is just off.

…Brian Kilburg: Another good one…hmm, I’ll give him a 5. He’s a funny kid, nice, friends with Hottie Joe Mauer, and his dad is beyond awesome.

(You know, I think LGM was a little confused when she did this. She meant to give them all 5’s and Dan Tormey a 7. Brownie points for being good-looking.)

What's an interesting thing about you that no one knows?

I’m not a very personal person so I’m not sure there’s much people don’t know about me. I guess some would not know that I have my own “stupid human trick”. I can fit my whole fist in my mouth…and I have big hands! Back in college it was funny to do at parties and cracked people up but I have refused to do it in about 5 years because I’m just too old for that now.

That’s not that interesting though. More on the shocking side would be that I dated a guy my Senior year of college that forbid me to go to Maverick Hockey games because my exboyfriend and his frat brothers went to them. We went to one game, saw them, and that was the end of my going to the games. Most shocking with that is that I actually listened to him to avoid the constant fight about it. What a freak!! I can’t believe that I ever let anyone, much less a guy, tell ME what to do!! NEVER DO THAT LADIES!! (Unless it’s Dan Tormey… do whatever he tells you to do ladies!)

Do you think Dan Tormey likes me? Or do you think he hates me?

I think Tormey has a love hate relationship with you. He loves you for your dedication to him and Maverick Hockey but probably gets embarrassed and a little freaked out by your love for him. It’s more love than hate though, so keep up the good work! (Don’t worry Dan, I freak myself out sometimes! I try to stop, but I just can’t! Stop being so good-looking! --No wait, don't...)

If you were Native American, what would your name be? Mine and Dan Tormey's would be "Isso Beautiful."

Hmm…I guess it would be “Isso Talkative”. I never shut up. (Cute name.)

When you hear that song that goes "You'll never see me again~~!" do you instantly think of Jon Kalinski and tear up?

No, I don’t think that. Hell, I don’t even know the song you’re talking about. The song “Nasty” by Janet Jackson reminds me of him though. HA HA! Oh, and anything “shorty” is always a Kalinski in my world. A short drink is a “Kalinski” or last weekend when I moved I had a “shorty woredrobe” box from Uhaul and we kept calling it “The Kalinski wordrobe”. Yep, I’m odd.

Oh, love that this Q&A session has 37 questions for me too! (Yeah that’s weird. And… coincidence. ;) (Check the time I posted this and the last couple of entries as well))

Which Maverick has the best middle name? (and it can't start with an M.)

I’m inclined to go with Louwerse since he’s a “Michael Scott” (which is my nephew’s name…which is a combination of my brother’s names). I could also go with Mick Berge’s middle name “Marlin” since that was my dad’s name…but I can’t choose a “M” name. I also like Mouillerat’s, “Brennan” (Haha I knew LGM liked Berge’s middle name and that’s why I said no M!)

What's your favourite number?

3 or 33. I was born on the 3rd day of the 3rd month, 3 weeks after my mom’s 33rd birthday at 3:08am. I kid you not! (Really?! I was born on February 25th, 1986, which is the same month as Dan Tormey, the same day as Jon Kalinski, and the same year as Trevor Bruess! I kid you not!)

If you could go back in time to any hockey game, which game would you go to?

The game at SCSU where the Mavs finally won (I had been to many, many games at the NHL with friends that are SCSU fans and we always lost and I hated it) and Clarky was in goal. It was awesome. That is the night I started to “heart” Chris Clarky. (That’s cool. I like SCSU games too. They’re my faves.)

So far, which freshman is your favourite?

Justin Jokinen, though I hate that he wears #14. When I see him on the ice my brain still thinks “ugh, stupid Wagner”. (Ugh I still think of Wagner too.)

How much pop do you drink a day?

WAY too much. I’m going to try to cut back. Hmm…let me see, I have a can of Dt. Dew on the way to work, and then a 16 oz. Coffee…then one for lunch and one in the afternoon…and then one at night. ..so at least 4 a day, plus a coffee. Cripes, can you say Caffeine Addiction? I love my Diet Dew and Coffee! (I asked this question to make sure I wasn’t drinking too much pop a day, and I drink one, so I guess I’m good.)

What's on your iPod?

The question is “what is NOT on my iPod”. I have everything possible on it. Lots of GB Leighton, Train, 80’s music, country….and then weird stuff like songs from the Brady Bunch and “old school rap” from my high school days like Eazy E and Snoop Dogg (that’s probably the most shocking to people!) (Don’t quote me on this, but I think Eazy E’s daughter was on My Super Sweet 16. Or maybe he just performed… or is he dead? I guess I shouldn’t be talking, because I really don’t know. But I know the name from My Super Sweet 16.)

What kind of car do you drive?

A Grand Prix (By what kind, I meant what colour! I don’t know anything about cars!)

What's your favourite thing about yourself?

That I’m outgoing and not afraid to talk to anyone. (Oh really? I like your eyes. :)

If you could travel to any place in Canada, where would you go

Vancouver. (Me too! Or Edmonton to visit Kael and go to that crazy large mall!)

What's your favourite pizza topping?

Green Olives. (You know, I had a pizza with green olives on it just the other day and really liked it! They’re real good!)

Did you ever play an instrument? If so, which one(s)?

Alto Saxophone. (OMG I played the tenor!)

If you had to choose a sport other than hockey and baseball, what would you choose?

To play? Volleyball and Golf. To watch? Sand Volleyball. (I was actually thinking of taking up golf. I hear Dan Tormey plays. Hoping to catch him at the course.

The Photoshopped one of the Mavs in the future with their jobs. (Good answer. :)

Diet Coke. (Not an option, but whatever...)

What were you for Halloween?

Nothing this year. I’m lame. I stayed in and watched the Maverick/Gopher game on TV. (Well, at least Kali/Kuh-lee/Kuh-lih was dressed up!)

If you got the chance to play NHL 09 against a Mav, which Mav would you play against, which team would you choose, and what team would you hope they chose?

I would choose the Blues and play against Channing Boe. That way I could talk a bunch of smack and he would have the guts to smart off back to me. I would hope he would choose the Sharks so he would lose and I could pick on Chris Clarky that his team even sucks on video games. (I would probably pay to see that. ‘Course, I would pay to see Channing Boe any day!)

Would you refer to your skin-type as oily or dry?

Dry. (I would describe mine as dry too… :( )

Have you ever had Yu's Chinese food?

Nose Post.

Well, here it is folks, the mandatory nose post. :)

So the other day, I was looking through the roster pics for like the hundredth time, when I came to the conclusion that the Mavericks just have really cute noses.

That night, at like two in the morning, I was still thinking about the guys' noses. Three guys in particular really stuck out in my mind when I was thinking about noses, and it just so happens, completely by coincidence, that the three guys are my top three. (Well, the traditional top 3, since Channing is kind-of-but-not-really #1A.)

I would provide you with pictures, but pictures don't do these guys' noses justice. So look at roster pics/whatever if you'd like, or the next time you see these guys in person, ask them to give you a profile view and take a good look at the beauty of their noses.

So then, let's start with Trevor Bruess.

But first, before I get to his nose, there's something I'd like to share with all of you. I never call Trevor Bruess "Trevor" or even "Bruess", but instead, I call him, Tiny Twev. He is only one of two Mavs who I have ever given a nickname to (the other being Steve Wagner, who I called Nancy), and it was derived by saying "Trevor" with a New York accent (you know, for Dan Tormey), where I arrived at Twevah. After using Twevah for some time, I one day randomly said "Tiny Twev". And, ever since, I've called him either Tiny Twev or TT for short.

Okay, now that we've cleared that up, let's get to his nose, shall we?

Tiny Twev has the cutest little broken nose I have ever seen in my life. It's one of those noses that you look at and you're like "Did he get punched in the face?" But unlike most broken-up-noses, Tiny Twev's is just adorable. Crooked, broken noses aren't usually my thing, but Tiny Twev knows how to work it.

Next up is the best-looking Maverick ever, Dan Tormey. Dan Tormey's nose is... well, just like the rest of his face... perfect. Flawless, amazing, unblemished, faultless... I could go on and on. (You know, I actually might think that Dan Tormey might hate me, but I just can't help but go on and on about him... I mean, I know it's not his fault that he's so good-looking, but hey, it's not my fault either.)

And thirdly, we have Jon Kalinski's nose.

But first, a quick thing about Jon Kalinski. I've been pretty much following the Flyers/Phantoms lately (well, when the Mavs aren't playing, what else is there to do?) and I have to say that it makes me upset that I always stumble upon that Claude Giroux guy's name when I should be stumbling upon Jon's name. So, after some thought, I decided that maybe if Jon French-ified his name, he would be even more popular than he already is! And so, I've decided that Jon needs to change his name to Jean-Brente Kalinské, J-BK for short. I know it's just a marketing ploy, but I totally think it's going to work. So get on that Jon! And from now on, I will be referring to him as Jean-Brente, just for future notice.

Anyway, back to Jean-Brente's nose. J-BK has the cutest nose ever from the side. Seriously, haven't you guys looked at his nose when he goes to take a face-off? (Well if you haven't, it's too late now. I don't know if you guys know this or not, but he's in Philadelphia. I know, I know, I'm still in denial too.) Half the time, I didn't even know if he won the face-off or not because I was too busy marveling at his nose. It's distracting, to say the least. It is just adorable.

Well then, that's all I have for now on noses. I actually posted some really cool articles on Wikipedia, but they've already been deleted for some reason or another. Which is pretty dumb, but whatever.

ALSO, to celebrate the Mavs' first game, AND the 1 year anniversary of the Mav Hockey Luv Blog, I will be making multiple posts this coming week, so stay tuned for some greatness as we all count down to the FIRST GAME OF THE YEAR! The Awaited Happy Birthday Channing Post.

As I'm sure everybody is aware of, September 13th is Channing's birthday! And, being that Channing is one of my favorite players ever, and thanks to the fact that I was pressured by a fellow blogger, I'm making a post to celebrate!

Sadly, this post isn't going to be the type that I was pressured to make. Instead, it's going to be a serious post, for you see, my creativity is currently on a halt. Plus, it's been a loooooong week full of hockey-related worries that I'm not going to get into. :)

So then, allow me to share with you the whiteboard/bulletin board that was in my dorm room last year:

Yup, that was the motto last year. And probably this year, too.

Basically Channing is the only Mav I've ever liked before I even saw him. (Okay, that's kind of a lie... I'd seen his picture and I think I did see him in person once...) But anyway, he's the first Mav I ever started to like before I really knew anything about him. (Okay... now that I think about it, I do think I liked Dan Tormey based off of his picture, so I was a little biased when I saw him in real life, but only slightly...) ANYWAY, the point is, I really liked Channing right away, for many reasons:

1st: His name. Okay, Channing Boe is the MOST AWESOME name ever. Honestly, I remember the summer before last, I was like rollerblading with my friend or something, and we were questioning rather or not this new "Channing Boe" guy was Asian or not. We finally settled that he was. (And we figured Austin Lee was a Texan. Wow, we need to stop guessing...) Anyway, you can imagine our shock when we finally saw a picture of this Channing Boe guy. :)

2nd: I heard one of his little "interviews" on the radio. I actually only caught the very end of it, but I loved it. And I loved his interview when they played North Dakota too. He's definitely my favorite Mav to listen to.

3rd: I don't really remember the facts on this (because really, when do I ever remember the facts?), but there was a time that someone checked Jon Kalinski or something, and Channing checked them back. Which made me really happy. Because that proved that Channing was a good teammate.

4th: Hello, Channing Boe is so inspiring!

There. Four good reasons why Channing rocks. So have a good birthday Channing!

A Few Things to Note.

First off, I'd like to give a big shout-out to all of the Channing Boe fans out there! Family, friends, stalkers... thank you all for visiting this blog. Channing is such a great guy, and I'd love to see his fan-base grow. ESPECIALLY if that fan-base is going to be checking my blog.

Secondly, I want to point out the new addition to our blog. That would be the countdown to the Mavs' first game!!!! I'm super new to Flash, so it took me a while to figure it out, but I think it turned out okay. I worked on it instead of working on my math homework. :)

Third of all, I would like all the Mavs to notice the role model that is Kael Mouillierat. Because of recent speculation, our site hits have sky-rocketed, which makes me a very happy blogger. Thanks Kael!

Fourth, if you know of any dirt on the Mavs, (players, feel free to partake in this!), please give it me. *cough cough*LGM*cough cough*

Fifthly, I have added (and re-added) two very special players to my top 5, and a special post in dedication will be made to them soon. (As soon as I have enough time, that is.)

Sixth of all, I'm thinking about starting my own radio show. Basically, it'll be available only on this blog, and instead of reading about the Mavs, you can hear me talk about the Mavs! Things to look forward to: My "I don't like Andreas Nodl" song, "player" interviews, special guests, and some other really cool stuff! But don't get your hopes too high... I'm still not sure if it's going to fly.

Hello everybody! As you can now currently see, there is a new layout!

For this layout, I invited a guest artist to portray her three favorite Mavericks in a summery environment. And, as you can obviously tell, her three favorite Mavericks are Kael Mouillierat, Dan Tormey, and Jon Kalinski. Although sometimes her third favorite changes. But most of time it's Jon. (And no, I do not influence that decision!)

Anyway, this layout is a limited layout to celebrate the last few days/end of summer. As soon as the season starts, I will be putting up another new layout, so enjoy this one while it's up! :)

A Canadian Meets "The American Mall"

First off, I just wanted to point out that LGM had a really nice, thoughtful post over on her blog about the seniors for this coming season. Give it a read if you haven't already!

Okay, so yesterday, I was like super bored, so I was watching "America's Next Top Model" like all day on MTV, and at like 5:30, this movie came on that I had seen advertised at the Mall of America called "The American Mall". Basically, it's a knock-off on High School Musical (One of my favorite movies EVAH!), and the male star is like one of the ugliest guys I've ever seen.

Seriously. The whole time I watched it, I just couldn't get over how ugly the main guy was. His hair was really long and greasy, and he was kind of big, and just not cute. But, there was something about him that really reminded me of Kael Mouillierat, who, according to my friend, is "HOT". So, I kept watching the movie, imagining that the ugly guy was instead Kael Mouillierat, and I must say, the movie was a lot better with him in mind!

And so, I did what I do best: I edited Kael's face on the ugly actor's face. And I must say, the results were really great. :)

So, for the sake of anybody who wants to watch the movie (don't.), I will share these pictures to help you get over how ugly the actor is:

Random Post -- "It's not random!"

Okay, so the other day, this girl says to me, super randomly, "You know, out of all the Disney guys, Aladdin was probably the hottest."

I was like, okay, that's random, but I didn't really give it much thought. Then, for some weird reason, I mentioned to Lydia about what that girl said, and Lydia was like, "OMG, no, the Beast is the hottest. You know, when he turns back into the prince. He was soft yet rough. I mean, he was pretty, but he was rough looking."

I was like, "No, the hottest Disney guy was John Smith."

And Lydia was like, "Ugh, John Smith reminds me of my grandpa."

And I was like, "If you met John Smith at Disney World when you were eight like I did, you'd totally think he was hot too."

So now, faithful readers, we're wondering, just who is hotter? John Smith or the Beast as a human? Or, you can just choose the safe answer and say that Dan Tormey is the hottest. :)

In other words, I'm officially on Phase V of "Post Hockey Depression".

What phase are you guys on?

Allow me to go through them:

Phase I - The Doom and Gloom Phase
This is the typical Depression stage. It consists of lots of crying and lots of eating... snacks and chocolate, that is.

Phase II - The Starvation Phase
This phase starts as soon as you stop eating. While complete starvation does not occur, the ceasing of eating snacks begins.

Phase III - The Bipolar Phase
Regular eating habits return, but mood swings are very common. This phase shows similarities to bipolar disorder.

Phase IV - The ADD Phase
This phase is the first stage to recovery, and it requires about a week of wandering minds and the inability to stay focused on anything. Hyperness is also usually associated with this phase.

Phase V - The Recovery Phase
The recovery phase is a continuation of the ADD Phase, only with a little more focus. In this phase, you feel about back to normal, but every now and then, you think to yourself "gee... something's missing..." That something being, of course, hockey.

So far, those are the only phases I know of, since I'm still on Phase V. :)

Meet my tapeworm! His name's Channing Boe!

Okay, so ever since the Mavs' season ended, I've been eating nonstop. At first, I just figured it was depression, and so I ate. I ate endless amounts of chocolates, cakes, fried food, you name it...

After eating an entire large pizza by myself, I realized that maybe I have a medical problem. (And no, I'm not talking about depression!)

I stopped snacking when Jon Kalinski left for three reasons:

I don't want to feel happiness.
I want to be skinny just like Jon Kalinski. :)
I think if my parents noticed that I lost a lot of weight, they'd think I was more depressed than I really am and let me go to Philadelphia! ~~Because that's not stalkerish...~~

Anyway though... I had a footlong sub at Subway the other day, and I was pretty full, but then ten minutes later, I was starving again! And this has been going on forever now! I mentioned it to Jordan, and Jordan was like, "Uh, maybe you have a tapeworm..."

So later, Lydia and I were joking that I most definitely have a tapeworm, and since we've decided that we're going to start a "Channing Revolution" by naming all of our children Channing in hopes that the name becomes the most popular name in the world, we were joking that we would name my tapeworm Channing. (♥)

What Happened on March 29th - A Documentary

So today I was browsing around thegreatestdocumentaries.com and I stumbled upon an interesting one titled "Beloved Hockey Player Leaves--how do teammates cope?!", which shares an interesting conversation between two well-known hockey players ten minutes after their well, "beloved" teammate leaves.

It was rather touching, to say the least. I still have a few tears in my eyes...

I know this seems kind of like the Trevor Bruess post, but the difference is, I didn't make this one up. ;)

I suppose it's time for me to address the latest tragedy... and I'm sure you're all aware that I'm referring to Jon Kalinski's departure. :(

Jon Kalinski was, as I'm sure you're all aware of, my favorite Maverick of all time.

Last week, I struggled through trying to make a post that was kind of a "don't go Jon!" post, before I even knew he was leaving. But I couldn't get my idea to really work out, and to be honest, I didn't think he'd be leaving, so I didn't do it.

Only to then hear the sad news. :(

:( :( :(

But no, seriously, I wish him the best of luck, and I hope everything works out well for him.

I wonder if he's nervous? Like, wouldn't that suck to just have to get up one day and leave, just like that? But I suppose I'd do it too, if I were him.

Well, maybe someday I'll have to make a trip to Philadelphia. Anyone wanna make a trip with me? :)?

But yeah... I guess I don't have a lot to say, but I wanted to give a shout-out to Jon, and tell him that he's a great hockey player and that he'll be missed very, very, VERY dearly here in Mankato!

...Uh, honestly guys. I don't know what to do. I can't replace him in the Top 5, but he's the number 1... so do I just leave him? And I'm probably going to bawl if there's ever a new 37 on the team, or when I find out his new number and can't say "OMG, look, it's Jon degrees outside!" when it's 37 degrees... Not that I do that that often or anything... Heh... (And besides, I do that with the rest of the team too...Haha~)

I don't know though, things just seem emptier knowing that Jon won't be back next year. :(

Oh well, like I said, I really wish him the best. :) :) :)

The Hills meets The Mavs

So, the other day I was watching the Hills (yes, I watch that show) and I was shocked at this specific scene between Heidi and her boyfriend/ex-boyfriend/fiance/ex-fiance.

I looked everywhere online for a copy of the episode to show you guys, but I couldn't find one. Luckily, I found this comic-strip version of the episode:

I always KNEW there was a reason I liked Spencer! He's related to Chris Clark! And they DO look like twins sometimes! AND Spencer agrees with me that Dan Tormey is sooooo good-looking! Heck, the whole cast of the show agrees! ;)

So here's how my life's going as of now:

My roommate, Lydia: Did you just say you're NOT thinking about hockey?
Me: Yeah, I'm not...
Lydia: What are you thinking about then?
Me: Hock--wait.

Okay now, seriously. I think the poor Mavs got screwed over and over and over these past few days, as I'm sure EVERYBODY is aware of, but whatever... I guess there's nothing we can do about it now. :(

I spent all of last week in a state of depression, but I'm doing better this week. :)

I have something planned for a next post, but for now, it's going to have to wait. I'm swamped with homework.

So in the meantime, I thought I'd open my blog up for questions. :) So if you have a question for me, feel free to ask! :)

(P.S. Lydia says no one is going to ask me questions, and I said that you guys would, so please ask!)

Here's an update on the Maverick front:

I heard an interesting rumor that could or could not be true, but I think it's worth mentioning:

The rumor I've heard is that a letter has been written to the head of the WCHA reffing staff (or whatever it is) from a very respected individual who was so appalled at the calls (or lack of) on Friday that this person took careful note of the calls (or lack of) on Saturday and Sunday as evidence to back their claims.

While this won't do anything to help us this weekend, it could at least prove that the refs sucked and maybe help ut out in the Pairwise.

(By the way, I swear, it wasn't me. SWEAR.)

You know...

I'm having a really hard time with yesterday's loss.

Everytime someone brings hockey up, I right away jump in their face yelling "THE GOPHER WAS IN THE CREASE!"

He was. He was so in the crease. It reminds me of Clark the Canadian Hockey Goalie and how he says his season ended in the play-offs thanks to a "garbage goal by a guy who was clearly in the crease." It's the same for the Mavericks.

Seriously, anywhere you look, he's in the crease. Am I right? No, apparently I'm wrong, since it was a goal. To me, it looks like he was in the crease. But that video's not the best quality or anything...

Also, what kills me are the comments by Gopher fans, saying that the GOPHERS weren't getting fair calls. Are they KIDDING me? Are the Gopher fans as blind as the refs?!

You see, I just don't understand. I don't understand how the refs can just literally screw our team like that. I don't understand how they went to bed last night knowing that they [potentially] ended a season for a team who worked so hard, and for a team who deserved to win.

I've heard it said a lot that "both teams deserve to win." The Gopher fan sitting next to me on Friday night's game turned to me, trying to be nice, and said, "both teams deserve to win." But I can't agree with that. Even trying to be as unbiased as I possibly can, I can't agree with that.

The Mavericks were picked to finish in what, 8th or 9th place? And they finished in 4th? The swept Denver. They BEAT Colorado College. (True, they had some lame losses here and there, but whatever...) The Gophers have like 20 signed players. We have 2. And yet, there we are, in 4th place, above the Gophers.

Even if the Gophers were the better team out there, I would STILL say that the Mavs "deserved to win." I can't really put it into words, because I don't entirely know, and I definitely don't have the proper evidence to back my claim, but the Mavericks worked their butts off. If my memory serves me right, both of the Gopher's goalies are signed. We just have Zacharias and Tormey (and Lee too. <3), two (well, three) non-signed goalies. And Zacharias played just as well of a game, if not better, than Kangas. So what if Kangas is a freshman. I'll happily stand by my claim that he isn't going to get any better with experience, especially not in the way that Zacharias did.

Speaking of Gopher fans (and I wish I had specific names or something, because I'm sure (or at least, I'm hoping) that not all Gopher fans are alike...), I sat by one yesterday for the first two periods who was a friend of one of my friends. She goes to the U of M but was home for spring break, and she was making me so mad. She didn't know ANYTHING about her team, except for that her goalie was named Kangas. But she CHEERED completely and entirely like she knew everything.

"Nice save Kangas! Come on Gophers! Here we go Gophers! Nice job getting that puck! Oh yeah Gophers! That's the way Gophers!"

THE ENTIRE TIME.

I was sitting there like, "Nice pass Irwin. Okay Sackrison, here you go. Nice hit Wiley (Heh...). Nice GOAL, Jon. (Jon had one of the called-off goals, right? I was so ticked I can't remember...) Etc. Etc. Etc."

What I'm trying to say is, this girl knew NOTHING about her team, and yet she felt the need to sit there and cheer for them like I was cheering for mine. I wanted to turn to her and be like, "Are you going to the X to watch the Gophers play if they win tonight? I don't think so. I AM if the Mavs win. So shut your mouth and only cheer if they score or something." Basically, in conclusion, I had to switch seats because I knew I would lose it if the Gophers won and I was sitting by her.

Especially because then she turned to me and was like, "So how's your team? Our team's not very good."

Even if the Mavs were in last place, I would NEVER EVER say that about them. Ever. I couldn't. I stared at her like I couldn't believe that, and then proceeded to tell her how amazing our team was, and how they DESERVED to win.

She just said, "Oh, that's cool."

Then she proceeded to tell me how cute Kangas was, and that was basically all she knew, so I had to point out Dan Tormey and say, "Don't even try to throw a "our goalie is better looking that your goalie" because our goalie is one of the hottest goalies--no, players--no MEN, in the world." Well, that shut her up. Ha.

So anyway...

It was just so lame to lose the way we did. By a goal that shouldn't have been a goal. The refs literally gave Minnesota the game. I hope they got paid well.

Also, all weekend, I heard people say that the reffing was bad because "the refs don't like Jutting". Seriously, how is that a justification? It's not the refs' jobs to LIKE someone. It's their job to fairly call the game.

I saw we get a petition going to get rid of ALL those refs that were there. True, we may have lost the game, but they can lose their jobs. I'd say it's a fair enough trade. (As long as they all end up as hobos, that is...)

Anyway, I think I've ranted enough. All I can say now is that I'm praying that someone loves us and that we'll make it in the Pairwise, but otherwise, I'm preparing myself for an awfully long off-season. :(

WE WON!

Since I couldn't be in Colorado, I tuned in on the B2-Network thing to watch both yesterday's game and today's. I'm not going to bother talking about yesterday's game, since let's face it, tonight's was much more interesting~!

Although, I don't know how we won with the LAME calls we were getting! What did Sackrison do?! Was he even on the ice when he got that lame penalty that they never DID explain on the radio? And why did that guy get a 10-minute major but nothing really happened? And it didn't look like Hanson kicked that puck in to me... Thank God Mouillierat made up for that...

You go Mouillierat~~

Oh, and it was sooo nice to see Stewart score. He really works his butt off out there, and it was great to see him finally have something to show for his hard work!

And how about Jon Kalinski? He is just too amazing for words... We'll leave it at that. ;)

And you know, on Friday, the announcers kept yacking about what a wonderful goalie Colorado's goalie is, and how he did that flopping. I was like, hello, was anybody at that N. Dakota game last year when Tormey was flopping EVERYWHERE and STOPPING the puck? In other words, no matter what, Dan Tormey will always be the hot Maverick of the game. ;)

And then the announcer was like "Besides those first two, [enter Colorado's goalie's name here] has been perfect." I was like, "And besides the first three, Zacharias has been perfect..." (<-- Back when Colorado just had three points on the scoreboard, that is. :)

I'm a little disappointed that St. Cloud won... :/ But I guess at least we won...

Now I can go to bed with a smile on my face. :)

Bland, Generic Post

Well everybody, it's the time you thought would never come. A normal, typical post from yours truly.

The last eight games have been truly marvelous. I knew the Mavs had it in them! That goal by Kael Mouillierat that is illustrated in the above picture was gorgeous, wasn't it? And of course, so was Jon's shorty vs. Wisconsin on Saturday! :)

The other day, I was cleaning out pictures on my phone, when I came across a picture that I had taken last spring.

I don't know about you guys, but when hockey ends, I go through what I call 'post-hockey depression'. And it's horrible! Last spring, I got it the worst. After MSU's loss to North Dakota, I started watching NHL games and ant documentaries (Something I'd NEVER done before!) to try to cheer myself up over the fact that [Maverick] hockey was over.

So, one day, Jordan and I were utterly bored, and we went to a craft store and went up and down the aisles, trying to find something to do.

That's when we came across Crayola Model Magic. Half-jokingly, we bought some and decided we were going to make the Mavs.

And... I'd like to say it turned out cuter than we thought it would!

It's hard to see their numbers, so here's who's all in it:

The Future of the Mavs

I'm sure you're all expecting a real serious post about last weekend's series (which ROCKED), but instead, I like to focus ahead.

And no, not ahead as in this weekend's game. I'm talking maybe ten years from now. Or maybe even four.

You see, it all started last night, when my roommate and I were watching men's figure skating on TV. We started talking about which Mav would make the best figure skater, and at first we were thinking Dan Tormey, but then we realized that Tormey just didn't have the right body type for figure skating. It didn't take us long to decide that Jon Kalinski has the best body type for a figure skater.

Which inspired this:

We then decided to make a list of occupations for the rest of the Mavs. (Minus a few, sorry guys...)

The Top 5

Okay, so I know my layout's new header is probably arising some questions that I decided I'd address before anybody gets too confused. ;)

So here goes~

Q: Who are the guys in the header? (Obviously one of them's Jon Kalinski...)
A: Well, here's who they are (Left-to-right) Trevor Bruess, Dan Tormey, Jon Kalinski, Channing Boe, Kael Mouillierat, and Geoff Irwin.

Q: Why does Trevor Bruess have glasses on?
A: Well, Trevor wears glasses. Seriously, I've seen him! Last season I was at a game and Jordan pointed at Trevor and was like, "Look at that hockey player!" I looked, and there was Trevor wearing these glasses. So I decided to add them to the drawing. :)

Q: Why is Dan Tormey so *GOOD* looking?
A: I really don't know. I could only *attempt* to capture his good looks in this drawing.

Q: Why is Jon Kalinski so adorable?
A: He just is.

Q: Why is Channing Boe holding his stick like that?
A: Okay, I love Channing Boe. (Hence why he's in the header....) He was the second one I drew (Jon was the first, of course. <3) and I couldn't decide on a pose. I wanted him to be all cutesy, so I decided to have him look kind of bashful, like he's hiding behind his stick. ♥

Q: Why does Kael Mouillierat have that hat on?
A: When I began planning this out, I knew that I wanted five guys. (Yes, I know, there are six. I'll get to that in a second) When I finished Jon and Channing, I suddenly knew I *had* to draw Kael Mouillierat. You see, when the guys did the skate with the Maverick thing, I noticed that Kael Mouillierat had a hat on like that. And so, I had to draw it.

Q: Why do Kael Mouillierat and Geoff Irwin have their arms around each other? (In a FRIEND kind of way, of course!)
A: Well, those two are pretty much inseperable, I'm sure. They're like a package deal, so if I wanted to draw Kael Mouillierat in that hat, then I had to include Irwin. It's that simple.

Q: Okay, what's with the "THE TOP 5 (-1)" in the background?
A: [FIRST OF ALL, I WANT TO POINT OUT THAT THIS HAS *NOTHING* TO DO WITH PLAYING ABILITY!] Well, last year, my friend and I decided to designate what we called "Our top 5". And so we did. The first three were easy: Jon Kalinski, Dan Tormey, and Trevor Bruess, all for one reason or another. We then made Zacharias our number 4 and Chris Clark our number 5.

As time went on though, we began to really like Kurtis Kisio. But since we didn't want to have a Top 6 but a Top 5, we decided to make Kisio and Clark a tie. So we basically had 6 guys in our top 5.

This year, we decided to 'retire' Kisio and Clark (and we miss them dreadfully. Especially Kisio, since, you know, he's not around anymore. *Sniffle*) and we were back down to a Top 4. So, we decided to add Kael Mouillierat, just because we think he's funny.

It wasn't long though before we fell in love with Channing Boe, so we decided to add him, making it so we had 6 again in our top 5.

But then we realized that you can't really have Kael Mouillierat in the top 5 without having Geoff Irwin, since they're a package deal, so now we have 7 in our Top 5...

Q: Okay, great, you're a little twisted and have 7 guys in your 'Top 5'. But where's Zacharias?
A: As I mentioned before, I really only wanted five guys. I wanted five guys on the header because A.) I wouldn't have had to explain that there are actually 7 guys in the Top 5 and B.) Because Jon Kalinski would have been more centered. BUT, since I decided to draw Kael Mouillierat, I had to include Irwin, just like I mentioned above. And yeah, by that point I could have drawn Zacharias, but... I just don't think I could truly capture his smile. And facial hair...Heh. That would SUCK to color facial hair! :/ So therefore, poor Mike Zacharias is not included. Which explains the (-1) in the header. It's the top 5 minus a guy! :)

Q: Why in the world did you take so much time to draw those guys, ink them, scan them, and color them?!
A: Well, it's a hobby of mine. I love to draw, I love to ink my drawings, I love to scan my drawings, and I love to color them via computer. It's fun, really. :) And come on, aren't they cute?

And now for something semi-Maverick news-ish related:

A couple of days ago, I headed over to Maverick Sports' homepage, and saw that they had a poll posted.

It says to "Select MSU Men's Hockey First Half MVP". (It's still up if you want to participate. :)

Well, being the biased person that I am, I chose Jon Kalinski, and was a little frightened as to how the results would be.

Whew, that was a long post...

North Dakota this weekend! I *HOPE HOPE HOPE* the Mavs kick some butt. I HATE North Dakota with a passion. But I won't go into that right now. :)

New Layout!

As you can probably see, I spent the day making a new layout!

I don't have a lot of time to explain it right now (Heh...) but I just wanted to see how it displayed for everybody. I made it on my desktop in Firefox, but it looks better on my laptop. (It's brighter and the text is bigger) However, I noticed it doesn't look the best in Internet Explorer. I'll try to fix that.

Hello everybody! Sorry I haven't posted for a while. I hope you guys weren't afraid that I had died!

While there are more productive things I could be doing (Like figuring out the Mavs' practice schedule...), instead I've just been sitting around this whole entire break.

I didn't get to go to Sunday's game, which saddened me, especially since Jon Kalinski scored. :(

Friday's game was pretty good. (Well, of course it was, we won!)

Well, happy new year everybody! Let's hope 2008 brings plenty of wins for the Mavs!
